German Club collective Outside The Disco teams up with West Coast disco alchemist Never Dull to deliver the garage influenced house cut ‘It Feels Like’. Fresh off the back of his pre-lockdown club hit ‘Voodoo Babe’, on taste-making London imprint Future Disco, the much tipped San Diego producer turns up the heat with a raw yet soulful house track loaded with both energy and attitude alike.
“When I started working on this track I was listening to a lot of soulful house, disco, and garage from the 2000s,” Never Dull explains. “I’ve always wanted to make something that nodded towards the energetic but nostalgic vibe of that era and I just felt like this was the right moment to finally do that.”
“Getting those ‘NY Garage style’ drums down first was key, I’d already been working on the bass line and the two slotted together perfectly. A bit of filtered Rhodes on top gave it that nostalgic soulful feel but it was after a digging session and I found the vocal that I knew I’d found the missing element. After that it just all came together naturally.”
The result is the kind of track that would slot as easily into a set of early ‘00s Strictly Rhythm or Henry Street classics as it would the best nu-disco tracks of today and shows why in just two short years Never Dull has grabbed the attention of everyone from the likes of Mixmag to clubbers and fellow DJs around the world.
